Like Mike, Dave Mirra grew up in Central New York. As a kid in Chittenango, he honed the bike-riding skills that would make him famous. Dave signed his first pro contract when he was 18 and grew into a BMX star, winning dozens of medals at the X Games, signing endorsement deals for products like Slim Jims and T-Mobile, and starting his own bike line. In 2016, when he was 41, Dave died by suicide, leaving behind a wife and two daughters. The Dave Mirra Foundation, launched by his family and friends in his memory, is working to promote mental health and suicide prevention as well as spreading his love of cycling.
